After the song was written, he stated, “I’ve always wanted to write a song about redemption and how everyone has the ability to redeem themselves somehow”. Sam came up with the idea of basing the song around a homeless man. The song originated when songwriter Annie Tate and her husband, Sam, were working with their friend and songwriting partner Dave Berg to construct a song about people having their moments. He remembers his own “Moments, days in the sun.” The young man then walks away from the bridge, imagining the older man telling his friends about his moments, including “that cool night on the East Street bridge / When a young man almost ended it / I was right there, wasn’t scared a bit / And I helped to pull him through”. Upon hearing the story, the young man then ponders his own life, wondering if anyone will miss him, should he decide to take his own life. Upon receiving the money, the homeless man tells of his past, saying that he “hasn’t always been this way”, and that he has had his “Moments, days in the sun / Moments was second to none”. Touring life is still exciting, says Mates who has been on the road. Next year, the band will criss-cross Canada in support of the new project, along with fellow Canadian band Doc Walker on the CMT Hitlist Tour 2013, which starts in March. While on the bridge, he notices an older, homeless man, to whom he gives money, figuring that he “wouldn’t need it anyway”. As they do look ahead to the future, Emerson Drive still sees the touring being front and center. The disc's true masterpiece is saved for the end, when the boys put a crafty rock/soul energy into the classic "Devil Went Down to Georgia," adding to Pichette's fiddle genius with a touch of Latin spice and a few witty, well-placed bars of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" by guitarist Danick Dupelle. The song is a ballad in which the narrator, a young man, plots to die by suicide by jumping off a bridge.

There's still a rock/pop edge, reflected by the popular, family values-driven first single "A Good Man" and "You Still Own Me." But the richer country elements shine through on the fiddle passages (performed brilliantly by David Pichette) of the raucous, honky tonkin' "Testify" and barnburning "Sweet Natural Girl." Heartfelt, gently twangy ballads like "Moments" and "A Boy Becomes a Man" beautifully balance the feisty tunes. That problem is solved on this incredibly infectious, not-a-bad-cut-in-sight collection, not only with a title indicating Emerson Drive's true identity as country artists, but with production by famed genre songwriters and producers Keith Follese and Brad Allen - who also happen to helm the band's new U.S. EMERSON DRIVE - MOMENTS Emerson drive live at cmc rocks the hunter 2011 - STORY BEHIND " MOMENTS" EMERSON DRIVE Keith burns interviews hit song writer sam tate ('moments'-emerson drive, 'if you're going through hell', 'the river knows'-rodney atkins, 'shut up and. The sounds were crisp, slick, and fit perfectly into the era's pop-country vibe, but Richard Marx's solid production was a mixed blessing some felt he made Emerson Drive "too" pop to be legit country artists.
